Two Hawkeyes Earn Academic Recognition

IOWA CITY – Senior men’s basketball player Adam Haluska and sophomore women’s player Wendy Ausdemore have earned CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine District VII academic all-America recognition. Haluska was named to the all-District first team and will have his name placed on the national ballot. Audsmore was a second team all-District selection.

Haluska is a finance and marketing major with a 3.5 grade point average. He has been named to the District VII team for the third straight season and earned third team academic all-America honors as a junior. The Carroll, IA native has started every game this season and all 122 games in his career. Haluska is averaging 21 points and 4.5 rebounds while shooting 42.7% from the field and 88.8% from the free throw line.

Haluska leads the Big Ten Conference in scoring and three-point field goals per game (3.2), while ranking second in free throw percentage (.888) and fourth in minutes per game (34.4). He is also 11th in steals (1.3), 14th in three-point percentage (.390) and 15th in assists (2.7).

Haluska has scored 33 and 34 points, respectively, in Iowa’s two most recent wins over Indiana and Minnesota. He is the current Big Ten Player of the Week and he was also named the national Player of the Week by The Sporting News.

Ausdemore has a 3.83 cumulative GPA and is majoring in communication studies and pre-business.

Sophomore Wendy Ausdemore is a second team selection.

Ausdemore has started all 23 games this season, averaging 11.9 points, 4.7 rebounds and 2.6 assists per contest. The native of Neola, IA, ranks third in Big Ten three-point field goal percentage (.402) and three-pointers made (2.04), ninth in minutes per game (32.4) and 19th in scoring (11.9). She ranks second in three-pointers made (45) in a single-season by an Iowa sophomore. Ausdemore has posted team highs in blocks seven times, scoring five times, assists four times and rebounds three times this season.

She tied the Carver-Hawkeye Arena record for most three-pointers made by an Iowa player this year when she drained five vs. Quinnpiac on Nov. 17, 2006. Additionally, Ausdemore was named to the WBCA Classic and Hawkeye Challenge all-Tournament teams in November.

Ausdemore and her Hawkeye teammates host Michigan tonight at 7:06 p.m. in Carver-Hawkeye Arena. The game will be televised on Comcast SportsNet Chicago.

The Hawkeye men travel to face fourth-ranked Wisconsin (1:05 p.m., ESPN) Saturday before hosting Northwestern Wednesday, Feb. 14 (7:05 p.m., ESPN Regional).
