Minneapolis, MN – The University of Iowa Hawkeye women’s swimming team competed at day two of the 2007 Big Ten Championships on Friday, hosted by the University of Minnesota. After the second finals round of the three day event, the Hawkeyes are in 10th place with 79 points. Leading the team race is the Indiana Hoosiers with 453.5 points.
Freshman Margie Chamberlin had a season-best time of 55.96 in the 100 fly prelims and a 56.15 in the finals, for a 15th place finish. The Hawkeyes got a season-best time of 1:45.61 and a seventh-place finish from the 200 medley relay team of Alison Gschwend, Emmy Haeger, Chamberlin and Christine Kuczek. The 800 free relay team of Chamberlin, Emily Hoefler, Robin Samples and Erin Petty placed 10th, with a season-best 7:37.62.
The Big Ten Championships will finish Saturday morning with swimming prelims at 11 a.m., diving prelims at 1 p.m. and finals at 7 p.m. Fans can follow live action at www.gophersports.com.
