Littlewood Classic, Day Two

Feb. 17, 2007

Recap | Box Score

Head Coach Gayle Blevins
“I thought Erin Riemersma played exceptionally well for us today. She handled Arizona State’s short game very well, and that’s a big part of their system. They use their speed to put runners on for their big hitters, and Erin did a nice job of handling all the action.”

Amanda Zust really grew up a lot in the second game. She came a long way. To pitch against a veteran team and the number two team in the nation is a tough situation. I told her after the game that she needs to keep this one in her memory because she now has that experience.”

“We really battled to get out of the first inning against Arizona State and I’m happy with the way we fought back. The rally was great. It’s just unfortunate we couldn’t play better in the bottom of the seventh.”

“I was really happy that we played better after a disappointing first game. Now that we have our defense back, we need to make plays.”

Sophomore Left Fielder Collen McGlaughlin
“The Arizona State game was a good game for us. We really battled to come back and we didn’t give up.”

On her solo home run
“I just saw a really good pitch and drove it. It was nice to get that run on the board, but the team really battled hard for seven innings. It was a team effort out there tonight.”

Freshman Pitcher Amanda Zust
“Against Arizona State, I thought we played really well together. It was great to have our defense back to normal. I tried to keep the ball down and the defense behind me was excellent. They made a lot of great plays that kept us in the game.”

“I just tried to hit my spots and let the defense behind me make plays. It was disappointing to lose two games today, but I think we learned a lot and grew a lot as a team.”
