FanFest 2007: A Great Schedule

Feb. 21, 2007

Have you ever wondered what the University of Iowa football team does on a Friday night before a game at Kinnick Stadium?

Or what is Hayden Fry’s fondest memory as head coach of the Iowa Hawkeyes?

Or how UI Assistant Coach Carl Jackson cranks out one of the Big Ten’s best running backs year after year after year?

The annual event that provides fans of the Iowa Hawkeyes the best opportunity to get the answer to these questions and more -the UI football program’s annual “FanFest” – is fast-approaching. FanFest 2007 will be staged Friday and Saturday, Mar. 2-3, at the Sheraton Inn in Downtown Iowa City.

More than 300 fans of the Iowa Hawkeyes have already registered for this year’s event However, registration is limited and fans interested in spending “quality time” with the Hawkeyes, visiting with UI Director of Athletics Gary Barta, and touring historic Kinnick Stadium and the new Paul W. Brechler Press Box should call (319) 335-8944.

This year’s schedule includes a kickoff address by UI Head Football Coach Kirk Ferentz, a round table discussion featuring Hayden Fry, Bob Brooks and Ron Gonder moderated by the current “Voice of the Hawkeyes,” Gary Dolphin, “Chalk Talk” sessions with UI assistant coaches Phil Parker, Carl Jackson and Darrell Wilson, and an autograph session with more than 25 current Hawkeyes including standouts like Damian Sims, Mike Humpal, Mike Klinkenborg, Mitch King, Andy Brodell, Bryan Mattison and Kenny Iwebema to name a few.

There’s also the “FanFest Live Auction,” “HAWK-I Bingo,” and the opportunity to hear firsthand from the 2006 senior class what it means to be a Hawkeye in a special video that is produced annually and shared with the team the night prior to the final home game.

“It promises to be two great days of Hawkeye football. Current coaches, former coaches, a Hall of Fame coach, legendary broadcasters…a once-in-a-lifetime experience,” said Matt Englebert, video coordinator for the Iowa Hawkeyes and the driving force behind FanFest.
