Capital Classic Day Two

Recap | Box Score | Notes

Head Coach Gayle Blevins
“Emily (Nichols) has been hitting extremely well for us. She had two chances in the last inning to keep the streak alive and we were all pulling for her.”

“She just gives us real solid at-bats every time at the plate. Even her outs are solid at-bats. She has a great approach to hitting and does a good job with every at-bat she takes. She has a lot of confidence when she is at the plate.”

“We moved Emily up in the lineup just to get her more at-bats. She caught both games for us today as well. She is just doing a great job all around for us.”

“I thought Brittany (Weil) turned in another good performance today. She is really starting to pick up steam. She is a great example of someone who was removed from the game for a while and now has a new perspective. She is happy to be playing again and it really shows”

“I thought our offense was very productive. We had a lot of people with multiple-hit games along with home runs from Summer (Downs) and Mindy (Heidgerken). We put together five or six hits in a row and did a good job of keeping pressure on our opponents. We need to bunch together hits like that more often.”

Junior Emily Nichols
“I never really thought about a hitting streak, I just wanted to see the ball and hit the ball. I try to keep it pretty basic.”

“When I’m at the plate, I just go with the flow. I take it one pitch at a time and one at-bat at a time. I never think about my previous at-bat or my next one.”

“I just want to keep hitting consistently throughout the season. I don’t want these last 28 games to be my peak for the season. Consistency is definitely the goal.”
