V8+ Earns Big Ten Boat of Week

IOWA CITY, IA –

The Iowa V8+ was named Big Ten Boat of the Wweek Tuesday. The Hawkeyes received this honor after an impressive end to the week with a victory over George Washington in the chilly waters of the Potomac River in Washington, D.C. Competing in winter-like conditions with a 20 mph tailwind and 20 degree windchill.

Iowa captured the win with a time of 6:22.1, besting GW (6:22.4) by just three-tenths of a second. The winning time was the second-fastest mark for the Hawkeyes this spring. The line-up of the winning boat was: coxswain and senior Lori Rehel, senior Jessica Reid, senior Megan Conner, junior Brittany Keyes, sophomore Hannah Miller, senior Janelle Cross, sophomore Melissa Wordelman, sophomore Laura Kanaris and sophomore Kristin Kelly.

This was Iowa’s first weekly honor from the Big Ten office this season. The last Iowa Boat of the Week was the V4+ on March 22, 2004. Iowa returns to action Saturday, traveling to St. Paul, MN, to compete against Minnesota, Wisconsin, Drake and Oregon State.
