Group, Northern Illinois Single-Game Tickets and More

April 20, 2007

IOWA CITY – The University of Iowa Department of Intercollegiate Athletics is now accepting ticket orders that guarantee access to individual home games on the schedule for the 2007 Iowa football team. The UI is also accepting orders that offer groups of 30 or more access to discount priced tickets and orders for tickets to the Hawkeyes’ 2007 season opener against Northern Illinois at Chicago’s Soldier Field.

“The rate of renewal by last year’s season ticket customer has been very, very strong,” said David Sandstrum, the UI’s assistant athletic director of ticket operations, who noted that the deadline for last year’s season ticket customers to place their order and retain their ticket priority is May 1.

“However, we know many of our visiting teams will not be using all of the tickets that we set aside for their use, so we’re jump-starting the opportunity for groups and individual fans who are not interested in a season ticket to access those tickets.”

The University of Iowa will enter the 2007 season with a string of 24 consecutive sellouts of historic Kinnick Stadium. Sandstrum is optimistic that – based on the feedback he is hearing from fans of the Hawkeyes, the renewal rate by last year’s season ticket customers and the requests for ticket information from new fans – all six home games of the 2007 Iowa football team will also be played in front of a sellout crowd of 70,000-plus.

Sandstrum said the UI Athletic Ticket Office is currently accumulating single-game requests from season ticket holders. Non-season ticket holders will have a chance to order single game tickets beginning July 10 if there are tickets available to sell. If available, single-game tickets will cost $50 per game. A limited quantity of $25 “youth tickets” – for use by boys and girls high school aged and younger – is available for the Hawkeyes’ Nov. 17 date with Western Michigan.

“It’s very likely that single-game ticket requests from fans who have no ticket priority and are not season ticket holders will not be filled if it is for a game like Indiana when we celebrate Homecoming and, therefore, demand is extremely high from customers with higher priority and other constituencies on campus whose orders need to be filled first,” said Sandstrum.

There is a solution to the problem, however. Fans of the Iowa football program who want to guarantee themselves access to a specific game or games can do so by purchasing tickets that also provide access to pre-game hospitality inside Hawkeye Village, the UI’s official pre-game hospitality area. Groups of 30 or more pay a discounted price for tickets and access to Hawkeye Village for the Hawkeyes’ games against Illinois and Western Michigan.

“The Hawkeye Village package is the best option for a fan who wants to know that when they place their ticket order, there will be tickets available. It’s also the best option for groups who either are looking for a savings on the cost of their game tickets or are in need of a place to gather and entertain prior to the game,” said Sandstrum.

Groups who use Hawkeye Village as the location of their pre-game activity are offered a turn-key solution that includes a private tent, tables, chairs, catering and priority parking passes.

Fans of the Hawkeyes interested in following the 2007 Hawkeyes on the road should note the following:

The UI Athletic Ticket Office is accepting orders for season ticket holders and the general public. However, all orders will be filled based on the UI’s ticket priority point system.

“We expect to be able to meet the demand from all of our fans for that event. However, as is always the case with special events like bowl games and one-time events like the game at Soldier Field, our plan is to first address the needs of our season ticket customer before we begin filling the wants of someone who is not a season ticket customer,” said Sandstrum.

Sandstrum also said tickets to Iowa’s games at Iowa State and at Wisconsin will be in very short supply and not available to the general public.
