The sun is shining. The grass is green and mowed. The garage is swept and clean. What’s next? A round of golf at Finkbine Golf Course.
The University of Iowa’s award-winning 18-hole championship golf course, located on Melrose Avenue just three blocks west of historic Kinnick Stadium, is open for play.
Finkbine’s challenge stretches over 7,000 yards of rolling Iowa terrain, and plays to a par 72 with a USGA course rating of 73.9 and slope rating of 132. Large undulating greens, contoured fairways, strategically located bunkers, hundreds of new trees, and new teeing areas add to the difficulty of this very demanding golf course. In addition, a six-acre lake and watering system takes care of all the greens, tees, fairways and practice areas to make Finkbine one of the most beautiful collegiate golf courses in the country.
Finkbine has been the home to numerous NCAA tournaments plus the Amana VIP Classic, and 1991 Hogan Tour, and 1992 and 1993 Nike Tour Hawkeye Classic tournaments. It is also home to the AEGON Advantage, a two-day celebration of the Hawkeye spirit staged the UI Department of Intercollegiate Athletics in cooperation with AEGON USA, a worldwide financial services company with U.S. headquarters in nearby Cedar Rapids.
