Senior defensive back Devan Moylan has been granted an additional year of eligibility by the NCAA and Big Ten Conference. The announcement came today from University of Iowa Associate Athletics Director, in charge of compliance, Fred Mims.
Moylan, a 5-10, 201-pound defensive back from Panora, IA, is a three-year letterman for the Hawkeyes. He applied for a medical hardship, due to a leg injury suffered against Illinois in the fourth game of the 2006 season. The injury precluded his participation in action for the remainder of the 2006 season. He was Iowa’s backup strong safety behind Miguel Merrick, prior to the injury.
Moylan has 28 career tackles and one interception. He’s expected to be a welcome addition to a defensive backfield short on experience.
Head Football Coach Kirk Ferentz was pleased with the result of the medical petition.
“We are thrilled to have Devan with us for the 2007 season,” said Ferentz. “Through his hard work and team-first approach, Devan has earned everyone’s respect. He’s a very valuable team member.”
