Season Ticket Sales to Pass 56,500

July 17, 2007

IOWA CITY – Sales of season tickets to the home games of the 2007 University of Iowa football team to the general public and UI faculty and staff have surpassed 46,000, the UI Athletics Ticket Office announced Tuesday.

The UI has sold 46,158 season tickets for the six-game home schedule of the Hawkeyes. That total includes a sellout of all premium seating inside the Paul W. Brechler Press Box and 3,922 season tickets purchased by UI faculty and staff.

Iowa sold 45,812 season tickets to the general public and UI faculty and staff a year ago. This year’s total includes increases of more than 100 season general public season tickets and more than 200 season tickets sold to UI faculty and staff.

The UI will enter the 2007 season with 24 consecutive sellouts of historic Kinnick Stadium and Sandstrum said six more sellouts this season are likely thanks in great measure to more than 950 new customers who have purchased more than 3,100 season tickets.

The UI Athletics Ticket Office is currently selling single-game tickets to only one home game on the Hawkeyes’ 2007 schedule – Iowa’s regular season finale Nov. 17 against Western Michigan. Single-game tickets to all five of Iowa’s other home games were suspended last week to allow for additional season ticket sales.

“It’s possible that we will have a very limited number of single game tickets available for some of the five suspended games in early August when we determine that there is no longer demand for season tickets. Until then, we will continue to accommodate requests for season tickets,” said David Sandstrum, the UI’s director of ticket operations.

Sandstrum said the only season tickets left for purchase do require an annual contribution to the National I-Club. Sandstrum also said the UI is on pace to sell all 10,400 tickets held for use by UI students.

Iowa opens its 2007 season Sep. 1 against Northern Illinois in a game that will be played at Soldier Field in Chicago. The two schools announced that game had reached sellout status last week.
