LAST COMPETITION
The Hawkeyes finished the 2007 spring with an eighth-place finish at the Big Ten Championships. Iowa’s four-round total of 1,257 ranks sixth-best in school history. Junior Tyrette Metzendorf was Iowa’s top finisher, placing 32nd.
MARY FOSSUM INVITATIONAL HISTORY
Michigan State, who hosts the annual invitational, has finished first in three of the last four years. The last year the Hawkeyes participated in the invitational was in 2005, where they finished 12th out of 15 teams.
SEASON PREVIEW
There is a nice mix of youth and experience for the Hawkeyes, as Head Coach Kelly Crawford returns five letterwinners off last year’s team, and also adds four freshmen to the mix. Seniors Jill Marcum and Melanie Boyles provide leadership for the Hawkeyes while the freshmen pair of Laura Cilek and Amanda Stahl, who finished first and second in Iowa’s state high school tournament last spring, will be counted upon to make an immediate impact on the course.
QUOTING HEAD COACH Kelly Crawford
“We obviously want to start out strong and give a good performance, but we will be seeing a lot of Big Ten opponents there. It will give us a chance to see how we stack up against them.”
