MEXICO CITY, MEXICO – Former University of Iowa diver Nancilea Underwood-Foster won the bronze medal in the women’s three-meter event in the second leg of the FINA Diving World Series last weekend in Mexico City. The World Series is a three-week event featuring the top divers from the 2007 World Championships.
Underwood-Foster turned in a consistent effort, scoring between 60 and 69 points on all five of her dives to finish with 323.90 points for the bronze. China’s Guo Jingjing finished with 372.90 to win gold for the second week in a row, having also won last week in Sheffield, England. Russia’s Yuliya Pakhalina won her second silver of the World Series with 362.50 points. Foster, who placed sixth at the World Championships, was seventh last week. The third leg of the competition will be held this week in Nanjing, China.
A native of Spring, TX, Underwood-Foster is the only five-time all-American in Iowa women’s swimming and diving history. She set the school and Fieldhouse Pool three-meter records, and the school one-meter championship record. She was also a 2006 district academic all-America second team honoree and a three-time academic all-Big Ten selection.
