The University of Iowa women’s golf team travels to University Park, PA, to participate in the Lady Northern Invitational hosted by Penn State University, Saturday and Sunday.

Thirteen other teams will join the Hawkeyes in this weekend’s tournament: Eastern Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, Kent State, Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota, Northwestern, Ohio State, Rollins, Penn State, Toldeo and Wisconsin.

All teams will play on Penn State’s Blue Course, which has a total distance of 6,300 and par of 72. A total of 36 holes will be played Saturday with an 7:30 a.m. shotgun start and the tournament concludes with 18 holes Sunday with an 8 a.m. shotgun. Both times listed are central.

Six Hawkeyes will travel to Penn State to compete: Melanie Boyles, Laura Cilek, Jill Marcum, Tyrette Metzendorf, Becky Quinby and Amanda Stahl. Freshmen Cilek and Stahl will see their first collegiate action this weekend.

The Hawkeyes finished fifth in their season-opening meet at the Mary Fossum Invite, September 8-9. Three Iowa players finished in the top 10, including Metzendorf (T-6, 226), Boyles (T9, 227), and Marcum (T9, 227). The Hawkeyes finished only one stroke from fourth place.

The host of the Lady Northern is determined by whichever team hosts the Big Ten Championships. Last season, in East Lansing, MI, the Hawkeyes finished sixth out of 12 teams.

“Going into our second tournament, we are still trying to figure things out. We are going to add a couple freshmen into the mix this week so that will give them an opportunity to get their feet wet. I think this is a good preview of our conference championship so we are going to test ourselves and see where we stand compared to everyone else.”
