BLOOMINGTON, IN – The Hawkeyes fell to Indiana 1-0 in overtime on Sunday, ending the last leg of a tough four-match road stretch dating back to last weekend. Indiana sophomore Kristin Arnold scored the game-winning goal from 18 yards out in the 98th minute.
Iowa also fell in heartbreaking fashion to No. 8 Purdue in overtime on Friday by a score of 2-1 but despite the defeat, Head Coach Ron Rainey is pleased with this weekend’s effort from his team.
“We had a very good effort today and we had some opportunities,” Rainey said. “It was a tough weekend as far as results go but we had two solid performances against two of the better teams in our conference.”
Freshman Kali Feiereisel made her second consecutive start in place of senior Lindsey Boldt and made seven saves. Junior Kelsey Shaw led Iowa with two shots but the offense couldn’t get many shots off against a stingy Hoosier defense.
The Hawkeyes return to Iowa City next weekend for their final two home matches of the season. They host Penn State on Friday and Ohio State on Sunday.
