Oct. 24, 2007

IOWA CITY – Kadi Sickel, a senior back from Plaistow, NH, was selected by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association to participate in the Division I Senior All-Star game. The game takes place Nov. 17 in College Park, MD, at the University of Maryland.

There are 38 student-athletes from across the country who have been selected to play in the game. Sickel is one of 10 players from the Big Ten Conference to be chosen.

“Kadi is an aggressive defender who has had an impact on the Iowa field hockey team for four years,” Head Coach Tracey Griesbaum said. “She has been a four-year starter and a part of two Big Ten Championships and two NCAA tournament appearances in her first three years in the program. We are proud of the successful seasons that Kadi has been a part of at Iowa.”

Sickel has had a very productive career for the Hawkeyes. She recorded five goals and an assist in each of her first two years. As a junior, Sickel was a third team all-American by WomensFieldHockey.com, a NFHCA regional all-American and a second team all-Big Ten selection. Along with her defensive responsibilities, she managed to tally a team-high 12 assists while being a main contributor on the offensive penalty corner unit. This season, Sickel has scored two goals on only seven shots while making many crucial defensive stops.

Last summer Sickel was a member of the United States Under-21 team that traveled to China to play against the Chinese Under-21 team and Shanghai Club.
