This Week
The University of Iowa women’s gymnastics team will travel to Mount Pleasant, MI to face Central Michigan, Friday. The Hawkeyes hold a record of 2-2 while Central Michigan is 0-2. Competition will take place at the Rose Arena and begins at 6 p.m. (CST).
Last Competition
Jen Simbhudas had a strong showing against LSU last week, earning Iowa’s best score in three events. On vault, Simbhudas tied for third scoring a 9.775. Moving to bars, Simbhudas earned a 9.725 for a fifth place finish and went on to place third on beam, scoring a 9.8. Simbhudas placed seventh on floor with a 9.6, earning a 38.9 in the all-around to finish third.
Head Coach Larissa Libby
In her first three years as Iowa Head Coach, Larissa Libby recorded a 20-42 record. Before becoming head coach, Libby was Iowa’s associate head coach for one year and an assistant coach the previous three seasons. While associate head coach, Libby helped lead the GymHawks to a school record 49.425 beam performance in 2004. In addition to the record breaking performance, the 2004 GymHawks recorded a 49.0 or higher seven times on beam under Libby’s guidance.
Next Competition
The Hawkeyes will open their home season against Illinois, January 25. Competition will take place at the Fieldhouse and is set to begin at 7 p.m. The meet against Illinois will air on the Big Ten Network, January 29 at 8 p.m. Iowa’s meet against Ohio State on February 9 will air February 14 at 6 p.m.
