The Hawkeyes tacked on five more runs in the second inning for a 6-1 advantage. Senior Emily Nichols walked and moved to second on an infield single by junior Rachel West. Carmody cleared the bases with her second triple in as many innings to make the score 3-1. Digmann then slapped a ball to the left side of the infield and the throw was dropped at first, allowing Carmody to score. Junior Colleen McGlaughlin followed with her second home run of the weekend, this time a two-run shot to right-center field for the final runs of the frame.

Sophomore Katie Brown and West teamed up for Iowa’s seventh run of the contest in the third inning. Brown dropped a two-out double on the right field line and scored on a slap-single to right by West.

Three more Hawkeye runs in the fourth gave Iowa a commanding 10-1 lead. Carmody singled and moved to second on a Utah Valley error, then hustled to third on a groundout. She scored on an RBI single by McGlaughlin for an 8-1 lead. Junior Callie Adreon took McGlaughlin’s place at first and slid into second on a wild pitch. After an Erin Riemersma single, Adreon scored on another wild pitch, followed by an RBI double by senior Summer Downs.
