Hawkeye Football Gets Early Kickoffs

July 2, 2008

IOWA CITY, IA – The University of Iowa’s first three football games for the 2008 season will all begin at 11 a.m. at Kinnick Stadium and will be televised on the Big Ten Network. The announcement was made today by the Big Ten Conference.

Four Iowa games were televised by the Big Ten Network last year and at least six games will be aired by the league network this year.

The Hawkeyes open the 2008 season at home against Maine on August 30. Home contests against Florida International (Sept. 6) and Iowa State (Sept. 13) follow.

The Maine contest is Varsity Club Day when Iowa’s 2008 Hall of Fame class will be honored. The Iowa State game has been designated Blackout Saturday where everyone is encouraged to wear black. It’s also the season’s first contest in the annual Hy-Vee Cy-Hawk series. The remainder of the Cy-Hawk schedule will be announced in August.

It was announced earlier that Iowa games against Northwestern and at Michigan State will begin at 11 a.m. (CDT). The regular season closer at Minnesota is set for a 6 p.m. kickoff. All six Iowa games, in which starting times have been announced, will be televised by the Big Ten Network.

The University of Iowa Athletic Ticket Office is now accepting orders for season and three-game mini-season tickets.
