Bennett Qualifies For Women's British Open

July 30, 2008

Liz Bennett, former University of Iowa golfer, qualified for the Women’s British Open after carding 71 at The Berkshire Golf Club this past week. Her score placed her 13th in the tournament, guaranteeing her one of the 30 spots in the British Open. Bennett, from Sway Hampshire, England, will tee off with Anja Monke of Germany and Rebecca Coakley of Ireland tomorrow, at the Sunningdale Golf Club.

Bennett, the 2006 and 2007 English Strokeplay champion, competed earlier this year for Great Britain and Ireland in the Curtis Cup. She also won the South Atlantic Ladies Amateur Championship to kick off the season.

While at Iowa, she was named academic all-Big Ten in 2003 and 2004 and the Hawkeyes’ Most Valuable Team Member in 2004 and 2005. She was also a four-time letterwinner and her scores appear in four of the five individual top ten lists at Iowa.
