IOWA WOMEN’S GOLF HAWKEYES IN TENTH AFTER DAY ONE AT JOHNNIE IMES
COLUMBIA, MO – – The Iowa Hawkeyes women’s golf team posted a season low 18-hole team score (+13, 301) in the first round of the Johnnie Imes tournament today. The Hawkeyes slipped however in the second round falling from third to tenth place overall. Play was postponed due to darkness and seven teams were unable to finish the second round. The remaining holes will be completed tomorrow morning before the third round begins. Arkansas-Little Rock is sitting solidly in first place after carding a 593 for the first two rounds.
The three upperclassmen all had great rounds today at The Club at Old Hawthorne. Tyrette Metzendorf, Winter Haven, FL native, had a concrete performance on the links, finishing tied for 11 (+5, 149). Senior Becky Quinby trailed her teammate by just five strokes (+10, 154) and junior Alison Cavanaugh was a close third on the Hawkeye roster (+12, 156). After 36 holes, the top three golfers for Iowa are all placed in the top 35.
Laura Cilek, sophomore from Iowa City, carded her collegiate career low for 18 holes, shooting a 76. She finished the day tied for 48th individually (+15, 159). Freshman Chelsea Harris finished Monday +26 (170), and tied for 78th.
The tournament will conclude Tuesday evening when the 18 competing teams finish out their last 18 holes. Iowa is going into tomorrow with hopes of repeating its first round score.
