IOWA CITY, IA – Former Southern Utah assistant women’s gymnastics coach Caleb Phillips has been hired as the new assistant women’s gymnastics coach at the University of Iowa, head coach Larissa Libby announced Friday.

Phillips replaces former assistant coach Jeff Richards, who left the program this past spring to return to his home of Logan, Utah, as the Head Women’s Gymnastics coach for Utah State.

“We are extremely pleased to have Caleb and his family here with us,” Libby said. “There was no question in my mind that he would be able to maintain the atmosphere and the culture we have worked so hard to build here at Iowa.”

Phillips earned his undergraduate degree from Southern Utah University, with a Bachelor of Science degree in psychology.

“I believe that Caleb is one of the brightest young and up and coming coaches in NCAA women’s gymnastics, and am confident that he will have a major impact on our program right away,” Libby stated.

“My wife and I have both said that moving to Iowa has never felt like a move,” said Phillips. “Both of us already feel at home in this beautiful city. We feel truly blessed and look forward to raising our family here and experiencing all that Iowa City and the University of Iowa have to offer.”

Phillips and his wife, Ashley, have a three-year-old son named Cable and an 11-month-old son named Beck.
