IOWA CITY, Iowa — As the University of Iowa football team completes spring practice No. 10 of 15 Thursday evening, it is interesting to note that Hawkeye football is on the minds of Big Ten Network executives as well. Three Greatest Games involving Iowa will be replayed the week of April 13-17 on the Big Ten Network.
On Monday, April 13, the 2008 game between the Hawkeyes and Penn State will be shown. Originally contested Nov. 8, Iowa used a 31-yard field goal by Daniel Murray with one second remaining to defeat the Nittany Lions, 24-23.
On Tuesday, April 14, the Big Ten Network will air the 1990 game between Ohio State and Iowa, played Nov. 10 in Kinnick Stadium. The Buckeyes won that game, 27-26. With one second remaining, Ohio State quarterback Greg Frey completed a 3-yard touchdown pass to Bobby Olive for the game-winning points. The Hawkeyes still secured a Rose Bowl berth that season.
The third football game featuring the Hawkeyes will be the 2005 Capital One Bowl, won by Iowa, 30-25, against LSU. UI receiver Warren Holloway hauled in a 56-yard touchdown pass from Drew Tate as time expired, giving the Hawkeyes their third consecutive season with at least 10 victories.
The final day of spring practice is Saturday, April 18, and Iowa’s season-opener will be Saturday, Sept. 5, against Northern Iowa.
