IOWA CITY – – University of Iowa Women’s Basketball Coach Lisa Bluder announced today that Trisha Nesbitt has signed a National Letter of Intent to attend the University of Iowa.
Nesbitt joins Morgan Johnson, Gabby Machado, Jaime Printy and Theairra Taylor as Iowa’s five-member recruiting class of 2009.
Nesbitt, who hails from Ames, IA, is a three-time first team all-conference, and two-time first team all-state and first team all-district (IGCA) honoree playing for Ames High School. The 5-6 guard was a consensus first team all-state selection and named to the all-state tournament team (class 4A) as a senior. Nesbitt, who was tabbed Ames’ MVP her junior and senior seasons, finished her prep career with 1,075 points and 162 steals, which ranks third best at Ames. She also amassed 424 career assists, which ranks second most at the school. In her final season, she led the state in free throw makes (145) and attempts (207). Nesbitt led her team in scoring (15.6), assists (5.4), and ranked second in steals (2.7) and 3-pointers (26) in leading her team to a state runner-up finish in 2009.
“We are pleased to sign Trisha to a scholarship in the late signing period,” said Bluder. “Trisha had a great senior season where she guided her team to second place in the state tournament, while at the same time earning first team all state honors. Trisha is a scoring point guard that enjoys playing defense. Trisha is a natural leader who is a fiery competitor and brings enthusiasm to the court.”
Nesbitt helped lead Ames to a 75-20 four-year overall record, two conference titles and two state tournament appearances. She helped guide the Little Cyclones to a school record 23 victories her senior campaign. Nesbitt holds the school record for single-season assists (140) and free throws made in a season (145) and career (375).
Nesbitt was also an outstanding soccer player her first two years at Ames. A two-time all-conference selection, she helped her team advance to the state tournament her freshman and sophomore years.
She also excels in the classroom. Nesbitt will graduate this spring with a 3.9 or better GPA.
