Cilek Earns Big Ten Award

April 28, 2009

IOWA CITY, IA – Laura Cilek earned the Big Ten’s Sportsmanship award for the Iowa women’s golf team this week. Cilek, an Iowa City native, is a sophomore golfer and competed in all but one tournament this year for the Hawkeyes. Her best tournament of the season was the Hawkeye Invitational, where she carded a 54-hole score of 234 and tied for 14th. Cilek is fourth on the team with an overall season average of 81.7 through 29 rounds. In her freshman campaign, Cilek was a letterwinner and competed in six tournaments.

“I’m very proud of Laura,” said Head Coach Kelly Crawford. “She is a great sport and a great ambassador, not only to our program but to the University of Iowa as well. This is the second year in a row she has received this honor, and it is very well deserved.”

Cilek will now be eligible to be chosen as Iowa’s nominee for the Big Ten Sportsmanship award, given later this spring.
