IOWA CITY, IA — Hawkeye junior Jolly Burke has been named to the ESPN The Magazine academic all-District VII second team for women’s cross country and track. Burke, a psychology and sociology major from Parker, CO, led the Hawkeyes in the 10,000 meters (36:06.96) during 2009. Her best times in the indoor 3,000 (9:54.62) and 5,000 meters (16:43.14) rank ninth and 10th, respectively, all-time at Iowa. A three-time academic all-Big Ten honoree, Burke was a member of the 2007 U.S. Junior National Cross Country team. She also earned all-region and second team all-Big Ten honors in cross country in 2007.
“Jolly Burke continues her outstanding career both academically and athletically at the University of Iowa,” said Head Women’s Track and Cross Country Coach Layne Anderson. “She epitomizes the title “student-athlete” and is a tremendous representative of the University of Iowa, Iowa Athletics, and the women’s cross country and track programs.”
