Angerer, Coach Ferentz Make Semi-final Lists

IOWA CITY, IA – Iowa linebacker Pat Angerer has been named a semi-finalist for the 2009 Chuck Bednarik Award and Coach Kirk Ferentz a semi-finalist for the George Munger College Coach of the Year Award. The Bednarik Award goes to the nation’s top collegiate defensive player. The semi-finalists were announced by the Maxwell Football Club of America.

Angerer, a 6-1, 235-pound senior from Bettendorf is Iowa’s leading tackler this season with 89 stops and an interception. He has already been named to CBSsports.com’s mid-season all-America team. Earlier this season he was named Bronko Nagurski National Defensive Player of the Week for his play against Penn State. He was also named to this year’s Butkus and Lott Trophy Award watch lists.

Ferentz was national Coach of the Year following the 2002 season. His Hawkeye teams have won 13 straight games and are currently ranked fourth in the BCS standings.

Iowa will take its unbeaten (9-0) record against Northwestern Saturday in Kinnick Stadium. The game is sold out.
