IOWA CITY – Four-time letterman Lon Olejniczak has been named honorary captain for Saturday’s game against Northwestern. The Hawkeyes face the Wildcats in a nationally televised game on ESPN with kickoff set for 11:02 a.m., in Kinnick Stadium. The game is sold out, which means Iowa has sold out 41 of its last 43 home games.
Olejniczak was a four year letterman (1979-80, 1982-83) from Decorah, IA. As a receiver he caught 23 passes for 274 yards and three touchdowns. He was also a punt return specialist with the Hawkeyes. During his Iowa career he played defensive back, tight end and wing back.
Olejniczak has thru the years been an integral part of Iowa’s connection with Aegon and is currently the Chief Sales Officer for Transamerica Capital Management. Since his graduation from Iowa, Olejniczak has been an instrumental volunteer and worker in numerous athletic and University related efforts.
Olejniczak will accompany the Iowa captains to the center of the field for the pre-game coin-flip. He will also be with the Hawkeyes in the locker room before and after the game and on the sidelines during the contest.
