IOWA CITY, IA – Members of the University of Iowa women’s soccer team participated in the National Education Association’s Read Across America program last week by reading to kids in the first through fifth grades at Lone Tree Elementary.

Alyscha Mottershead and Dana Dalrymple joined Head Coach Ron Rainey and Assistant Coach Shane Meridith in participating in the annual Read Across America program, which was established in 1997 to motivate and bring awareness to children in every community to celebrate reading and commemorate Dr. Suess.

The Hawkeye freshmen read stories as well as answered questions from the eager elementary students about reading, athletics and the University of Iowa.

“It was really great to see the players interacting with the Lone Tree students and faculty,” Rainey said. “The focus on reading is something everyone can support. By getting the players out there to read and be in front of groups is helping them become tomorrow’s leaders.”
