Iowa Announces Football Roster Changes

Aug. 26, 2010

IOWA CITY, IA – University of Iowa Head Football Coach Kirk Ferentz announced two roster changes that have taken place since the Hawkeyes began training camp in preparation for the 2010 football season.

Ferentz announced Thursday that senior fullback Wade Leppert and freshman linebacker Austin Gray have left the squad. In addition, there has been no change in the status of sophomore running back Brandon Wegher.

Brandon Wegher has not returned to the team and has not indicated any intentions of doing so in the immediate future,” said Ferentz. Wegher was with the Hawkeyes during the first two days of fall practice, but has not returned to the practice field since that time.

Wade Leppert has left the team and plans to finish school here this year,” added Ferentz. “Austin Gray has decided to leave the football team. Austin went through camp, but chose not to start school.” Leppert is a senior and a two-year letterman. Gray was a member of the 2010 recruiting class.

Ferentz also noted the Hawkeyes expect to have everyone available for the season opener. “Several players in the two-deep have been injured in the preseason, but at this time none have been ruled out of our opening game,” noted Ferentz.

The Hawkeyes open the 2010 season Sept. 4, hosting Eastern Illinois at Kinnick Stadium (11:01 a.m., BTN).
