Feb. 22, 2011

IOWA CITY, Iowa — The University of Iowa field hockey team has been awarded the 2010 Gladiator by SGI/NFHCA Division I National Academic Team award. The National Academic Team Award recognizes those institutions that have achieved a team GPA of 3.0 or higher during the first semester of the 2010-11 academic year.

“Our student-athletes take their academics very seriously,” said head coach Tracey Griesbaum. “We strive to be the best we can be in the classroom and on the playing field. Every semester we have team GPA goals and this past fall semester we were able to far surpass our goal. We look forward to continued success with our academic performance.”

The Hawkeyes were one of six Big Ten schools to receive the honor given by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA).
