IOWA CITY, Iowa — The UI Department of Athletics and head coach Fran McCaffery have announced the non-conference men’s basketball schedule for the 2011-2012 season. Iowa will play 10 non-league regular-season contests on Mediacom Court at Carver-Hawkeye Arena, two true road games and one neutral site contest. The Hawkeyes will play 13 non-conference games, all in the state of Iowa.
Iowa will hit the hardwood this season with four returning starters and four newcomers. Hawkeye fans will get their first glimpse of the new squad in an exhibition against Northwest Missouri State on Nov. 6.
The regular season tips off Friday, Nov. 11 when the Hawkeyes entertain Chicago State in the first of three preliminary games of the Dale Howard Classic. Game two of the Classic will be Nov. 14 when Iowa hosts North Carolina AT&T.
Northern Illinois will visit Iowa City (Nov. 17) before the Hawkeyes travel to Des Moines (Nov. 20) to play Creighton in the Dale Howard Classic at Wells Fargo Arena.
The Hawkeyes then return home for four consecutive home games. Iowa will host Campbell (Nov. 23) in the final Classic preliminary game before challenging IPFW (Nov. 26). The Hawkeyes will entertain Clemson, who tied for fourth in the ACC last year, Nov. 29 in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge and then compete against Brown (Dec. 3).
After the home stand, Iowa will hit the road for two straight road games against in-state competition: Northern Iowa (Dec. 6) and Iowa State (Dec. 9) in the Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series.
Iowa will conclude its non-conference slate with three consecutive contests in Carver-Hawkeye Arena. The Hawkeyes welcome Drake (Dec. 17) and then close out against Central Arkansas (Dec. 19) and Boise State (Dec. 22), who finished second in the Western Athletic Conference a year ago.
Iowa’s Big Ten schedule, game times and television information will be announced later this summer.
