May-Johnson and Team USA Win World Cup of Softball VI

OKLAHOMA CITY — University of Iowa assistant coach Stacy May-Johnson led the USA Softball Women’s National Team to the title at the World Cup of Softball VI in Oklahoma City. Team USA posted a 5-1 record in the tournament, which included a 6-4 victory over Japan in Monday’s championship game.

May-Johnson, who is entering her second season as a member of the Hawkeye coaching staff, posted a .353 (6-17) batting average with seven RBI and five runs scored. She also belted a pair of home runs for the Red, White and Blue, including a grand slam in the 10-0 run-rule victory over Great Britain.

Team USA returns to action October 17-23 at the Pan American Games in Guadalajara, Mexico. The squad is looking for a seventh consecutive Pan American Games Gold Medal and 10th overall.
