MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. — The University of Iowa men’s cross country team finished 18th at the Roy Griak Invitational Saturday in Minneapolis, Minn. The Black and Gold posted a score of 482. The meet was Iowa’s third event of the season and first away from the Ashton Cross Country Course in Iowa City.
North Carolina State won the 24 team event with a score of 96. Host school Minnesota finished third, posting a score of 153. Arizona freshman Lawi Lalang finished first in the 8K with a time of 23:15.
The Hawkeyes were paced by Nick Holmes. The Hawkeye junior finished 20th with a time of 24:36. Freshman Kevin Lewis finished 79th with a time of 25:26. Jon Michael Brandt finished 133rd for the Hawkeyes. The sophomore turned in a time of 26:03. Freshman Ben Witt turned in a 140th place finish. He recorded a time of 26:08. Freshman Evan Selsor finished 148th after running a time of 26:17. Junior Nick Young (27:10) and freshman Nikolai Mondragon (27:15) finished 187th and 191st respectively. Senior Chase Kadlec finished 202nd with a time of 27:31, while sophomore Sam Chaney finished 214th recording a time of 28:37.
The University of Iowa women’s cross country team will compete Oct. 1 at the Loyola Lakefront Invitational in Chicago. The men’s cross country team will return to action Oct. 14 at the Panorama Farms Invitational in Charlottesville, Va.
