Hawkeyes Advance 2 Boats to Finals

SAN DIEGO, Calif. — The University of Iowa women’s rowing team competed at the 39th San Diego Crew Classic this past weekend. The Hawkeyes raced crews in the varsity 8 and 2nd varsity 8. Iowa’s Varsity 8 advanced to the grand final, while the 2nd Varsity 8 advanced to the third level final.

To begin the day, the Varsity 8 crew raced in the `C’ heat of the event. The crew posted a second place finish with a time of 6:53.153 to advance to the grand final on Sunday. The team posted a time 7:22.37 in the women’s collegiate varsity grand final SeaWorld Cal Cup to place sixth overall in the event. Duke won the race with a time of 7:08.47.

The 2nd Varsity 8 crew placed fifth in a time of 7:02.59 in the `A’ heat of the event during the morning session. The crew’s time (7:02.59) advanced it to the third level final Saturday afternoon. Iowa went on to place first in the third level final with a time of 6:55.38. The Hawkeyes finished ahead of Gonzaga (6:56.50), Alabama (7:03.37), Kansas State (7:05.47), Duke (7:06.39) and USD (7:06.63).

The Hawkeyes return home on April 7 to host Michigan, Michigan State and Louisville at Lake MacBride.
