Iowa Game Notes vs. Ohio State
IOWA CITY, Iowa — THE SETTING
The University of Iowa women’s basketball team opens Big Ten play by hosting the No. 24 ranked Ohio State Buckeyes on Thursday. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. on Mediacom Court inside Carver-Hawkeye Arena.
Tickets are $10 for adults and free for youth (18 and under) and UI students.
PROMOTIONS
? Thursday is Jaime Printy bobblehead night. The first 750 fans will receive a Jaime Printy bobblehead.
? Thursday is a Family Four Pack Night. For $30, fans will receive four tickets, four hot dogs and four drinks.

IOWA HISTORY
Iowa has played 1,112 games since beginning basketball in 1974. Iowa’s overall record is 682-430 (.613). That includes a 340-170 (.667) mark in regular season Big Ten contests and a 340-92 (.787) mark in Carver-Hawkeye Arena.
SCOUTING OHIO STATE
The 24th-ranked Ohio State Buckeyes are 10-3 overall and have won six of their last seven games, including the last four in a row.
In its most recent game, Ohio State defeated Howard, 67-50 on Dec. 30. Tayler Hill led the Buckeyes with 22 points, while Ashley Adams had 13 points and 11 rebounds. Ameryst Alston had nine assists.
Hill leads Ohio State with 19.4 points per contest and is shooting 36.8 percent (32-of-87) from 3-point distance. Amber Stokes is next at 10.8 points per game. Adams is averaging 10.2 points and a team-high seven rebounds per game.
As a team, Ohio State is shooting 37 percent (67-of-181) from 3-point distance and holds a +20.1 scoring margin. The Buckeyes are averaging 71.5 points per game.
OHIO STATE VS. IOWA NOTES
? Thursday will be the 58th meeting between the two schools, with Ohio State holding a 31-26 advantage in the all-time series. Ohio State has won 16 of the last 18 meetings, dating back to the 2002-03 season. Iowa’s two wins in that stretch came during the 2008-09 season (85-75, Feb. 12, 2009) and the 2010-11 season (89-76, Jan. 8, 2011).
? The Hawkyes are 17-8 against Ohio State in Iowa City and have won the last two meetings in Carver-Hawkeye Arena.
? Iowa and Ohio State will only play once during the regular season this year.
? Iowa Head Coach Lisa Bluder and Ohio State Head Coach Jim Foster are the longest-tenured Big Ten coaches. Bluder is in her 13th season at Iowa while Foster is in his 11th year at Ohio State.
LAST MEETING
The ninth-ranked Ohio State Buckeyes used two runs late in the first half and early in the second to take down Iowa, 84-71 (Jan. 2, 2012).
Iowa sprinted out to a 37-22 lead with 5:19 left in the first half. Ohio State responded with a 17-3 run to close the period, as Iowa took a 40-39 lead into halftime.
The Buckeyes then used an 11-2 surge to open the second half and held on to the advantage throughout the final 20 minutes.
Ohio State limited Iowa to just a 32.3 (10-of-31) field goal percentage in the second half. Iowa only made two of its eight 3-point attempts in the second half.
The Hawkeyes were led by Morgan Johnson’s 25 points on 11-of-16 shooting. Kamille Wahlin was 4-of-5 from 3-point distance and added 17 points. Jaime Printy scored six of her 13 points from the free throw line and also added five assists.
HAWKEYES TOP SAN DIEGO FOR SURF `N SLAM TITLE
Iowa overcame an early 11 point deficit to defeat San Diego, 83-73 on the Torero’s home court to win the 2012 Maggie Dixon Surf `N Slam Classic.
Iowa shot a blistering 54.7 percent from the field, including 56 percent (14-of-25) in the second half to come away with the win. Iowa was also 11-of-18 from the 3-point line (61.1 percent).
Jaime Printy paced Iowa with 33 points on 10-of-20 shooting (7-of-12 from 3-point range, 6-of-6 FTs). Morgan Johnson added 20 points and six rebounds while Bethany Doolittle had 10 boards.
PRINTY’S RECORD NIGHT VS. SAN DIEGO
? Jaime Printy tied the school record for 3-pointers made in a single game with seven against San Diego. Kamille Wahlin and Lindsey Meder are the only other Iowa players to hit seven 3’s in a single game. Printy was 6-of-7 in the second half, making her final five attempts. Her seven made treys are the most by a Big Ten player this season.
? Printy scored a career-high 33 points in Iowa’s win at San Diego (Dec. 30). It was the second time in her career she has gone over 30 points (32 points vs. Illinois as a sophomore).
HAWKEYES LIKE TO SHARE
?Samantha Logic broke Iowa’s school record for assists in a single game against Texas, finishing with 14 assists. Her 14 assists are the most by a Big Ten player this season. Earlier this year, Logic tied the previous school record with 12 against Middle Tennessee State.
? Iowa currently leads the Big Ten and ranks 18th in the NCAA with 17.2 assists per game. Logic also leads the Big Ten in assists at 6.9 per contest.
? The Hawkeyes have 241 assists on 357 made field goals this season (1.5 assist/field goal ratio).
TRIPLE 20
Against No. 20 Texas, Iowa had three players score at least 20 points (Melissa Dixon – 23, Jaime Printy – 21, Morgan Johnson – 20).
The last time an Iowa team had three players go over 20 points was against Wisconsin on March 9, 1991. Toni Foster had 23 points while LoTonya Tate and Steph Schueler each had 22.
DOUBLE-DOUBLE THE HARD WAY
Samantha Logic recorded a double-double against Texas without using points as one of the statistical categories. She finished with 15 rebounds and 14 assists.
The last Iowa player to record a rebound-assist double-double was April Calhoun against Denver during the 2002-03 season (10 rebounds, 10 assists).
HOT OVER THE LAST FOUR GAMES
? Iowa has shot over 50 percent from the field in each of the last four contests and has a 51.6 field goal percentage (131-of-254) over that stretch. The Hawkeyes are also shooting 39.8 percent (35-of-88) from 3-point distance.
? Iowa is averaging 87 points per game over the last four contests and holds a +26 scoring margin.
? Morgan Johnson (67.3 percent) and Bethany Doolittle (64.3 percent) are each shooting over 65 percent from the field.
IOWA IN THE RANKINGS
Iowa is receiving votes in the latest Associated Press and ESPN/USA Today polls.
Seven Iowa opponents are ranked in the Associated Press and ESPN/USA Today polls: Penn State (9th/9th), Purdue (14th/14th), North Carolina (15th/23rd), Florida State (19th/21st), Nebraska (25th/19th) and Ohio State (RV/24th).
In addition, Iowa State, West Virginia, Michigan, Michigan State and Texas are receiving votes.
IOWA CONTINUES TREND AGAINST RANKED FOES
? Iowa’s win over 12th-ranked West Virginia (Nov. 25) marked the 14th time under Lisa Bluder that the Hawkeyes have defeated a top-15 team.
? The Hawkeyes have recorded at least one win against a top-25 team in all but two seasons under Bluder. In nine of those seasons, Iowa has knocked off at least one top-15 opponent.
? West Virginia was the highest ranked opponent the Hawkeyes have defeated since knocking off No. 10 Michigan State (66-64) on Jan. 27, 2011.
? This season marks just the second time in school history that Iowa has defeated three ranked teams prior to Big Ten play (No. 12 West Virginia, No. 22 Iowa State, No. 20 Texas). The only other time Iowa knocked off three ranked opponents was in 1993 (No. 4 Louisiana Tech, No. 20 Missouri State, No. 9 Southern California).
? This season is only the sixth time in school history that Iowa played at least three ranked teams prior to conference action. Iowa faced five ranked opponents in 1990 (2-3 record) and three ranked school in 1999 (0-3), 1995 (2-1), 1993 (3-0) and 1989 (1-2).

? Iowa has an RPI of 12 and a strength of schedule of 16, according to the Jan. 1 RealTimeRPI .com ranking. Iowa’s RPI is higher than 14 teams inside the top 25 of both major polls, including three top 10 teams. The RPI is also higher than any team receiving more votes than the Hawkeyes.
? Iowa’s strength of schedule is higher than 18 top 25 teams, including six top 10 teams and all teams receiving more votes than Iowa in the polls.
MISSOURI STATE VS. IOWA SCORING NOTES
? Iowa’s 97 points is the seventh highest point total in school history and tied for the fourth highest total under Lisa Bluder. It’s the most points Iowa has scored since putting up 98 against Western Illinois in 2011-12. ? Iowa’s 54 point margin of victory is the fourth largest in school history and the largest under Bluder. The previous high under Bluder was 53 against Western Illinois in 2011-12.

BEST BOARD GAME IN B1G
Iowa’s 60 rebounds against Missouri State (Dec. 19) are the most by a Big Ten team this season.
The Hawkeyes collected 21 offensive and 39 defensive rebounds against the Lady Bears.
BENCH PRODUCTION
Iowa’s bench is outscoring its opponents’ bench 251-177, this season. Hawkeye substitues are combining to average 17.9 points per game, while their opposition is averaging just 12.6 points per contest.
Iowa’s bench has scored 14 or more points in 10 of Iowa’s 14 games, including five games with at least 20 points.
IMPROVED DEFENSIVE NUMBERS
? Through 14 games last season, Iowa was giving up an average of 65.9 points per game. Against a much tougher schedule in 2012, the Hawkeyes are allowing 59.9 points, a difference of six points per game.
? Iowa ranks second in the Big Ten and 18th in the NCAA in blocks per game at 5.8. Iowa is the only team in the Big Ten to block 10 shots in more than one game, having done it three times.

? Jaime Printy currently owns an 88.4 career free throw percentage (374-of-423). Former Hawkeye Wendy Ausdemore holds the Iowa and Big Ten record for career free throw percentage at 89.2 (174-of-195).
? Printy is shooting 91.7 percent (66-of-72) for the season. The Big Ten single season record is 92.5 percent (99-of-107) by Indiana’s Cyndi Valentin.
PRINTY FREE THROW NOTES
? Printy has gone 3-of-3 from the line against Drake, 4-of-4 against Northern Illinois and Northern Iowa, 6-of-6 against Iowa State and San Diego, 11-of-11 against Middle Tennessee and 17-of-17 against West Virginia.
? Printy converted 21-consecutive free throws between Iowa’s game vs. North Carolina and the road contest at Florida State. She has put together a string of at least 20-consecutive made free throws in each year of her career. She converted 27-straight as a freshman and 32-straight as a sophomore and junior. Iowa’s record for consecutive free throws made is 33 by Lindsey Meder.
STELLAR FROM THE FIELD
Morgan Johnson owns a career field goal percentage of 52.4 percent, converting on 531-of-1,014 shot attempts.
Johnson has played in 110 career games and attempted 10 or more shots in 47 of those contests. She has shot over 50 percent from the field in 34 of those games.
Johnson had 10 or more shot attempts in eight games as a freshman, making over half of her shots in six of those games. She went over 50 percent in eight of the 13 games she shot at least 10 times as a sophomore and 11-of-15 in those games as a junior.
Johnson has 11 games with over 10 shots as a senior, converting at least 50 percent nine times.
BLUDER CLOSING IN ON MILESTONE
Head coach Lisa Bluder is just three wins away from career win No. 600. Bluder entered the 2012-13 season as the 26th winningest active coach and the 46th overall winningest coach in NCAA women’s basketball history (by victories).
Only 41 coaches in NCAA women’s basketball history (all divisions) have reached the 600 career win plateau.
MOVING UP CAREER CHARTS
? Morgan Johnson is Iowa’s all-time blocks leader (254), 10th in career rebounds (728) and 12th in career scoring (1,344). She needs 18 more rebounds to move past Randi Peterson for ninth place and 96 more points to past Megan Skouby for 11th place.
? Jaime Printy ranks third in career 3-pointers made (225), sixth in career scoring (1,609) and ninth in career assists (356). She needs seven more 3-pointers to move past Kamille Wahlin for second place, 134 more points to move past Franthea Price for fifth place and two more assists to move past Nadine Domond for eighth place.
