Seemann Swims to School Record on Final Day of B1Gs

MINNEAPOLIS — Junior Lindsay Seemann reset the University of Iowa women’s swimming and diving school record in the 200 back during the final day of the 2013 Big Ten Championships.

Iowa concluded the championships with 113 points to finish 10th overall. Host Minnesota placed first with 831.5 points, while Indiana finished second (671.5) and third (498.5), respectively.

Seemann swam to a school record (1:56.49) during the preliminary round of the 200 back. Her time is an NCAA `B’ cut. She advanced to the final where she swam to the wall in 1:59.00 to finish 16th overall in the 200 back “B” final.

Junior Karolina Wartalowicz touched the wall in 2:14.75 to finish 17th in the 200 breast “C” final. Her time is an NCAA “B” cut and marks a season best performance.

Sophomore Becky Stoughton swam to a 15th place finish during the 200 butterfly “B” final, touching the wall in 2:00.95.

During the preliminary round of the 100 free, freshman Olivia Kabacinski posted a time of 50.30. Her time marks a season best performance. Kabacinski went on to finish 21st in the 100 free “C” finals (50.32).

Junior Lauren Kelba tallied a season best score of 224.15 during the preliminary round of the platform event, while Joelle Christy accumulated 204.85 points, and junior Abby Grilli collected 199.50 points. Iowa divers did not advance to the platform finals.

The Hawkeyes concluded the championships with an 11th place showing in the 400 freestyle relay. The squad of junior Emily Hovren, Kabacinski, junior Abbey Tuchscherer, and Seemann swam a time of 3:22.31.

Iowa will return to action March 11-13 when its three divers travel to Houston to compete in the NCAA Zone D Diving meet.
