IOWA CITY, Iowa — The University of Iowa men’s tennis team lost to Dartmouth College, 5-2, Sunday afternoon at the Hawkeye Tennis and Recreation Complex.

Iowa (6-4, 0-1) failed to gain the doubles point as Dartmouth won 2-of-3 doubles matches to gain the doubles point. Matt Hagan and Jonas Dierckx notched the lone win for the Hawkeyes in doubles play as they took down Todd and Ghorbani of Dartmouth, 8-5. Garret Dunn and Michael Swank fell in their doubles match along with Juan Estenssoro and Joey White.

Dunn and Hagan were the lone Hawkeyes to pick up victories in singles play. Hagan pulled out a hard-fought victory in three sets, defeating Centenari of Dartmouth, 2-6, 7-6, 6-2. In No. 3 singles action, Dunn took down Ghorbani of Dartmouth, 6-4, 6-3. Kipouras won by retirement over Dierckx as the junior left due to injury.

“Dartmouth is a solid team,” said head coach Steve Houghton. “We played well in some spots. Losing the doubles point hurt us. I also thought some of our players were suffering from fatigue from four matches compacted into a very short period of time.”

The Hawkeyes hit the courts next on March 10 at Northwestern.
