Hyde Selected by Packers in 5th Round

April 27, 2013

IOWA CITY, Iowa — University of Iowa senior defensive back Micah Hyde was selected by the Green Bay Packers in the fifth round of Saturday’s NFL Draft. Hyde was the 159th player picked overall.

It is the sixth consecutive season that a Hawkeye defensive back has been chosen in the NFL Draft. Last season Shaun Prater was taken by Cincinnati in the fifth round and Jordan Bernstine went to Washington in the seventh round.

Hyde was named first-team All-Big Ten and received the Tatum-Woodson Defensive Back of the Year in the Big Ten Conference last season after recording 78 tackles with 14 pass breakups, three fumble recoveries, and an interception. He started the final 38 games of his career.

The native of Fostoria, Ohio, was named the Roy J. Carver Most Valuable Player on defense for the Hawkeyes.

Hyde is the 52nd player coached by Kirk Ferentz at the University of Iowa to be selected in the NFL Draft.

Hyde joins two other former Hawkeyes who are currently playing for the Packers: Bryan Bulaga is an offensive lineman and Mike Daniels is a defensive lineman.
