Iowa Hosts Milwaukee In Exhibition on Saturday

Aug 15, 2013

IOWA CITY, Iowa — The University of Iowa soccer team opens the 2013 season with an exhibition contest against Milwaukee on Saturday at 12 p.m. (CT) at the Iowa Soccer Complex.

The Hawkeyes enter the 2013 season on the heels of the most successful two-year stretch in program history. Iowa has won 25 games — a school-record 13 in 2011 and 12 in 2012 — and set or tied 10 records over the past two seasons.

Eighth-year head coach Ron Rainey returns eight starters from last season’s squad, including three of its top for goal scorers from last season in junior Cloe Lacasse, senior Ashley Catrell, and junior Katie Nasenbenny. The Hawkeyes also have two experienced goalkeepers returning in sophomore Hannah Clark and junior Kiley Beck to go along with nine newcomers, including Milwaukee transfer Emily Scott.

Iowa is undefeated in nonconference matches over the past two seasons, but the program is 2-3-1 all-time against Milwaukee.

The Panthers went 8-9-1 en route to a Horizon League Championship and its fifth-straight NCAA Tournament berth in 2012. Milwaukee has won the regular season Horizon League title 13 straight years and has seven starters returning in 2013.

The Hawkeyes open the regular season Aug. 23 at Drake before hosting Western Michigan in their regular season home opener Aug. 25.
