Ramos to Compete at NWCA All-Star Classic

Oct. 2, 2013

IOWA CITY, Iowa — University of Iowa All-American Tony Ramos will kick off the 2013-14 wrestling season against Virginia Tech’s Devin Carter at the NWCA All-Star Classic on Nov. 2.

Ramos, a national runner-up at 133 pounds last season, and Carter, a 2012 All-American at 133, will meet at 141 pounds at the NWCA All-Star Classic, hosted this year by George Mason University.

This will be the fourth career meeting between Ramos and Carter, but the first at 141 pounds. Carter won the first meeting — a 6-4 overtime decision in the 2011 Midlands finals. Ramos has won the last two matchups, 3-2 at the 2012 National Duals, and 8-3 at the 2012 NCAA Championships.

Ramos enters his senior season with a career record of 88-12 and a pair of All-America honors. He is the top-ranked 133-pound wrestler in the country, according to WIN Magazine.

Carter, a junior this season, redshirted last year and enters 2013-14 ranked No. 3 at 141 pounds.

Ramos is the first Hawkeye to compete at the event since Daniel Dennis beat Maryland’s Steve Bell, 9-8, in 2009.

The 48th annual All-Star Classic begins at 6 p.m. (CT) at the Patriot Center in Fairfax, Va. Tickets are available at Ticketmaster.com. For more information visit NWCAonline.com.
