DES MOINES, Iowa – The University of Iowa women’s tennis team posted an overall record of 9-1 on Saturday at the Drake Jamboree in Des Moines. The Hawkeyes went 6-1 in singles and 3-0 in doubles.
After posting solid performances on Friday and Saturday, Katie Zordani and Ellen Silver each remain unbeaten in singles action after day two at the Drake Jamboree. Katie Zordani improved to 6-4 on the season after defeating Adele Hanke of Bradley, 6-4, 6-2. Ellen Silver earned a victory over Bradley’s Carly Miles in two sets, 6-0, 6-0. The two juniors also paired up to earn a doubles victory over Jennie Harties and Katherine Nelson of Creighton, 8-0.
The Hawkeyes also tallied singles victories from Ruth Seaborne, Morven McCulloch, Caitlin Hindmarsh and Aimee Tarun.
In doubles action, the Hawkeyes collected a pair of 8-0 victories. Caitlin Hindmarsh and Ruth Seaborne teamed up to defeat Jennie Harties and Katherine Nelson of Creighton, while Morven McCulloch and Aimee Tarun defeated Sam Anderson and Karlin Naslund also of Creighton.
“The team competed well today and the results showed that,” said University of Iowa head coach Katie Dougherty. “We’ll look to finish strong tomorrow and go into the offseason on a high note.”
The Hawkeyes conclude the three-day tournament with a doubles match-up against Bradley beginning at 9 a.m. (CT) on Sunday and follow up with SIU-Edwardsville in Singles.
