IOWA CITY, Iowa — Senior Johanny Sotillo earned the first FloGymnastics Routine of the Week accolade of her career after capturing an event title on bars (9.900) at No. 21 Illinois last weekend. In addition, Sotillo finished third on beam with a 9.850 effort.
The Valencia, Venezuela, native helped the Hawkeyes to a 196.275 team score, their third upset victory of the season and first victory in Champaign, Illinois, since Jan. 24, 2009.
This season, Sotillo has earned 11 top five finishes and collected four event titles on bars and one on beam. The senior helped lead the GymHawks to their first win at Michigan State since 2011 and their first win over No. 25 Ohio State since 2010.
Sotillo and the GymHawks return to action on Saturday, when they take on Towson for the final home contest of the regular season inside Carver-Hawkeye Arena. The meet is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. (CT) and will serve as the annual Breast Cancer Awareness Pink Meet and Senior Night.
