Metcalf, Ramos Represent U.S. at Olympic Qualifier

IOWA CITY, Iowa — University of Iowa national champions and United States World Team members Brent Metcalf and Tony Ramos compete at the 2016 Pan American Olympic Games Qualifier in Frisco, Texas, on Saturday.

Ramos is competing in the 57kg/125.5 lbs. division. Metcalf is competing at 65 kg/143 lbs. The qualification round and repechage begin at 10 a.m. (CT). Medal matches begin at 5 p.m. Flowrestling will broadcast the event.

The Pan Am event serves as a major qualifier for the 2016 Summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The top two place winners in each of the 18 Olympic weight classes will qualify their nation to compete at the Olympic Games. To date, the United States has qualified five weight classes.

Team USA will decide its Olympic wrestling team April 9-10 at Carver-Hawkeye Arena in Iowa City, Iowa. Tickets to the 2016 United States Olympic Team Trials are available for purchase at hawkeyesports.com and iowacitytorio.com.
