IOWA CITY, Iowa — University of Iowa head volleyball coach Bond Shymansky announced Wednesday the addition of Meghan Buzzerio to the 2016 roster. Buzzerio, a 6-1 outside hitter from Chino Hills, California, transfers after redshirting her freshman year at Arizona. She will have four years of eligibility remaining.
“Meghan is a talented player and a fantastic teammate to add to our program,” said Shymansky. “Our volleyball program continues to build on strong character and strong ability. Her skillsets as a six-rotation player will be a great benefit to us, and her experience of winning at every level brings innate tenacity and steadiness.
“We are excited about the fall and about the impact she can make on the court with our team.”
Buzzerio went to Arizona ranked 96th nationally on PrepVolleyball.com’s Senior Aces list. A four-year letterwinner at Chino Hills High School, Buzzerio was a first-team all-conference honoree in each of her final three seasons. She was named league MVP as a junior and earned first-team All-CIF honors as a junior and senior.
Buzzerio competed for Coast Volleyball Club where she helped her team to a third-place finish at nationals during her senior season.
Shymansky has now added five newcomers to the 2016 roster. Freshmen Emily Bushman (DS), Cali Hoye (OH), and Alexa Ito (DS) will all join the team this fall, while sophomore Kasey Reuter (OH) joined the team last spring.
The Hawkeyes open the 2016 season at the NIU Invitational on Aug. 27.
