IOWA CITY, Iowa — University of Iowa senior Aimee Tarun and the Hawkeye women’s tennis team have been recognized by the International Tennis Association for their academic prowess in 2015-16.

Tarun was named a scholar athlete by the ITA. She is the 16th Hawkeye in program history to earn the honor, and first since 2012. The health and human physiology major had previously earned Academic All-Big Ten honors and was named a Big Ten distinguished scholar.

The UI women’s team was named an ITA All-Academic Team for the second year in a row, and the seventh time in program history. To earn the team honor, all varsity letterwinners must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 or above.  Individual honors are awarded to letterwinners with a GPA of 3.50 or above.

The Hawkeyes open the 2016 fall season Sept. 22 at the Gopher Invite in Minneapolis.
