LUBBOCK, Texas — The University of Iowa women’s golf team sits at sixth-place following the first 36-holes at the Red Raider Invitational on Monday. The Hawkeyes posted scores of 300 and 303 on the first 36-holes of the Rawls Golf Course for a total of 603 (+27).

New Mexico State leads the field (+9; 585), while Texas Tech sits in second (+12; 588).

Junior Jessica Ip led the Hawkeyes with a two-round total of 145 (+1; 71, 74) to tie for fourth-place heading for the final round. Ip’s two rounds were highlighted by 29 holes at or below par, including six birdies at holes two, five, 11, 12, 15, and 17 .

“There was a lot of good today,” said head coach Megan Menzel. “It was the first tournament of the year, and we had stretches where we looked very solid. But, we struggled early and finishing this afternoon.  We look forward to the opportunity to continue to play a little looser tomorrow and climb the leaderboard.”

Junior Morgan Kukla also performed well for the Hawkeyes today, posting a two-round score of 150 (+6), registering rounds of 74 (+2) and 76 (+4). Kukla made par or better on 13 holes in her first round and added 13 more in round two, including seven birdies total at holes two, seven, nine, 11, 17, and 18 (twice). She is tied for 17th heading into the final round tomorrow.

Freshman Sophie Liu made her collegiate debut by posting a 74 (+2) in the first round and 77 (+5) in the second round for a total of 151 (+7). Her rounds were highlighted by 27 holes at par, including four birdies at holes seven, nine, ten, and 12. The newcomer is tied for 25th with one round left to play.

Rounding out the Hawkeyes were senior Jessie Sindlinger and junior Elisa Suarez. Sindlinger sits tied for 53rd after carding a two round total of 157 (+13), posting rounds of 79 (+7) and 78 (+6) with 23 holes at or below par. Suarez finished the second round in72nd place with total of 168 (+24), carding rounds of 80 (+8) and 88 (+16).

The final round of the Red Raider Invitational begins tomorrow with tee times beginning at 8:00 a.m. (CT). Live scoring is available at Golfstat.com.
