MARSHALL, Missouri — Five University of Iowa wrestlers won titles and two more placed runner-up at the Missouri Valley College Open on Saturday at the Burns Athletic Complex in Marshall, Missouri.
 
The Hawkeyes were 28-3 overall with 16 wins by falls, four technical falls, and six major decisions. Two of Iowa’s three losses were at the hands of another Hawkeye wrestler.
 
Carter Happel defeated Brock Rathbun, 14-2, in the 141-pound finals, and Alex Marinelli was a 5-4 winner against Kaleb Young in the 165-pound finals. Both Marinelli and Young pinned their way to the finals. Happel was 5-0 on the day with two falls and three major decisions.
 
Perez Perez (125), Keegan Shaw (149), and Joel Northrup (165) also won titles. All three recorded bonus points in each round of the tournament. Shaw was 4-0 with three first-period falls and a technical fall.
 
Matt Malcom was runner-up at 157, winning twice by technical fall and recording a major decision and pin before falling in the finals.
