Iowa Hosts Loras on Wednesday in Banks Opener

IOWA CITY, Iowa — With temperatures expected in the mid-70s, the University of Iowa baseball team added a midweek game against Loras College on Wednesday at 5 p.m. (CT) at Duane Banks Field. Admission is free.
 
The Hawkeyes bring a 1-2 record into the midweek contest after dropping 2-of-3 games at South Florida last weekend in Tampa. Wednesday’s game will be the season-opener for the Duhawks.
 
Iowa will send sophomore Shane Ritter to the mound for his second start of the season in what will be a “staff day” for the Hawkeyes’ pitching staff. Ritter is 0-1 after pitching one inning Feb. 19 against the Bulls. He gave up three runs on two hits in the start.
 
Sophomore Robert Neustrom leads the Hawkeyes with a .455 batting average. The Sioux City, Iowa, native connected on five hits and an RBI over the weekend. Mason McCoy is hitting .364 and is one of three Hawkeyes to have hit a home run this season.

Iowa travels to Hoover, Alabama, this weekend for the Hoover Classic. The Hawkeyes face Alabama State on Friday and Saturday before closing the weekend road trip against Morehead State on Sunday.
