Big Ten Match Play Rundown

The Big Ten Match Play is an event that sticks out on our calendar every year because it’s our only scheduled match play event.  Match play is a different format than we are normally used to, and it always brings excitement along the way.

Last week in Florida was no different, my teammates and I were playing very well heading into the weekend and it really showed. Our goal was to go to the Big Ten Match Play and turn some heads and really show that we came to play this spring season, we did exactly that.  Penn State was the only team that stood between us and the Championship match, it came down to the last hole and we unfortunately couldn’t get it done.  There was definitely a letdown after the match ended and it showed in our following match against Minnesota.  As a team, we got down too many to start the match, which makes it very hard to come back, we fought back the best we could and made it interesting toward the end.  However, fourth place was a solid finish for us, and we turned some heads when we beat No. 1 seed Michigan State in the second round, and almost beat a very solid Penn State team in the third round.

We have the next couple of weeks off before we head to South Carolina for spring break. Our team is looking good right now and I hope that we will be able to ride the momentum that we gathered at the Big Ten Match Play for the rest of the year.
