IOWA CITY, Iowa – The University of Iowa’s men’s tennis team will compete in the ITA Kickoff Weekend on Jan. 28-29 on the campus of the University of Georgia in Athens, Georgia.
There are 15 groups of four that make up the ITA Kick-Off Weekend. The 15 schools that win both of their matches at these events will be invited to play in the Feb. 16-19, 2018 ITA National Team Indoor Championship hosted by the University of Washington.
The Hawkeyes will face host-school Georgia and either Memphis or Arkansas in the two-day event. This marks only the third time that the Hawkeyes have been invited to compete in this prestigious event, with the most recent time being last season at Texas Tech.
Last year at Texas Tech, Iowa split its two matches. The Hawkeyes defeated the Red Raiders before falling to Mississippi State.
“It’s good to see our program sustain a level over the last three years of our national ranking improving and making it to the ITA Kickoff,” said UI head coach Ross Wilson.
“I think it will be nice for the guys to go to Georgia and play on the courts where they’ve played a majority of the NCAA championships. It’s a great experience for us and it’s the level of tennis we want to play.”
